Sebastian Bach, born as Sebastian Philip Bierk on April 3, 1968, is a renowned Canadian-American singer who gained fame as the charismatic frontman of the hard rock band Skid Row from 1987 to 1996. Beyond his musical prowess, Bach has also ventured into acting on Broadway, appearing in films, and making memorable television appearances, notably in "Trailer Park Boys" and "Gilmore Girls." His journey in the world of entertainment continues as a solo artist.
Born in the Bahamas and raised in Peterborough, Ontario, Bach hails from a family of eight children. His father, the late David Bierk, was a celebrated painter, known for his artistic contributions to album covers, including Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind" and Bach's solo albums "Angel Down" and "Give 'Em Hell."
Bach's passion for singing was kindled at a young age, as he fondly remembers listening to his mother and aunt singing informally at home. He found solace and joy in joining a church choir at the tender age of eight, discovering his lifelong calling while singing hymns.
Bach's musical journey began with his involvement in the band Kid Wikkid during 1983-1985. After a successful audition, he joined the band, which then moved to Toronto, ultimately setting the stage for his musical career.
However, Bach's true breakthrough came when he became the lead vocalist for Skid Row in 1987. He was discovered singing at a wedding by Jon Bon Jovi's parents, who introduced him to Dave Sabo, the guitarist of Skid Row. Bach's incredible vocal talent became the driving force behind Skid Row's success, particularly with their first two multi-platinum albums, " Skid Row" (1989) and "Slave to the Grind" (1991), the latter of which topped the Billboard 200 chart.
Despite the success, Bach faced controversy over a T-shirt he wore in a 1989 photo with the phrase "AIDS Kills Fags Dead," but he later expressed remorse and contributed to AIDS awareness causes.
In 1996, Bach's time with Skid Row came to an end due to disagreements with band members, and he embarked on various musical and acting ventures. He recorded with bands like The Last Hard Men and ventured into Broadway, playing roles in "Jekyll & Hyde" and "The Rocky Horror Show."
Bach's diverse career included hosting VH1's "Forever Wild," appearances on "Gilmore Girls," and competing on reality shows like "Celebrity Rap Superstar" and "Gone Country." His solo music career kicked off with the album "Bring 'Em Bach Alive!" in 1999, featuring live performances of Skid Row songs and new studio tracks.
He also dabbled in voice acting for SpongeBob SquarePants and collaborated with other musicians, including John 5, Duff McKagan, and Steve Stevens, on his 2014 album "Give 'Em Hell."
Bach's journey continued with solo tours and live performances, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Skid Row's debut album and "Slave to the Grind." He's known for his resilience and unwavering dedication to his craft.
In his personal life, Bach has experienced the joys and challenges of relationships and parenthood, with engagements and marriages, as well as medical setbacks related to his dynamic singing style.
Sebastian Bach remains an enduring figure in the world of rock music, celebrated for his iconic contributions to Skid Row and his continued pursuit of artistic excellence as a solo artist.
