Aly & AJ, the dynamic American pop-rock duo, comprises the talented Michalka sisters, Aly and AJ Michalka. Born in Torrance, California, Aly Michalka arrived in 1989, followed by AJ Michalka in 1991. They burst onto the music scene under the banner of Hollywood Records, releasing their debut album, "Into the Rush," in 2005. This album marked a significant milestone in their career as it earned Gold certification from the RIAA and featured hit singles like "Rush" and "Chemicals React." Building on this success, they went on to release "Acoustic Hearts of Winter" (2006) and "Insomniatic" (2007), with the latter boasting the Platinum-certified single "Potential Breakup Song," which soared to the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2010, Aly & AJ parted ways with their record label and briefly adopted the name "78violet," releasing the single "Hothouse" in 2013. Following a period of creative exploration, the sisters returned to their original name and launched the extended plays "Ten Years" (2017) and "Sanctuary" (2019). Their journey continued with the release of the studio album "A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun" in 2021, featuring tracks like "Slow Dancing" and "Listen!!!".

In December 2015, Aly & AJ resurfaced in the music scene, reverting to their original name. They released "Take Me" in 2017 as the lead single from the EP "Ten Years." The EP's success was followed by "Good Love" in 2018, and a deluxe version of "Ten Years" later that year. In 2019, they launched the EP "Sanctuary," accompanied by a North American tour.

Their activism has also been notable. Aly & AJ have used their platform to champion various causes, including LGBTQ+ rights, voter registration, Black Lives Matter, Planned Parenthood, and mental health awareness. They've supported organizations such as The Trevor Project and Project HEAL and have actively engaged with their fans in charitable endeavors.

Aly & AJ have ventured beyond music into acting, appearing separately and together in films and television projects, most notably their roles in the Disney Channel Original movie "Cow Belles" in 2006 and the independent comedy-drama film "Weepah Way for Now" in 2015.

In their personal lives, the sisters have encountered challenges, including stalking incidents, but they have also shared their faith journey, emphasizing their strong Christian beliefs while not seeking to be pigeonholed as Christian music artists. Their evolving perspectives have led them to embrace evolution and support voluntary school prayer.
