Tyron Kaymone Frampton, better known by his stage name Slowthai, is a British rapper from Northampton. Born on December 18, 1994, Slowthai's early life was marked by adversity, including the loss of his younger brother at a young age. He grew up in a council estate with his mother and attended Northampton Academy, where he struggled in school due to his ADHD.Despite these challenges, Slowthai found solace in music, skipping school to spend time at a local recording studio with his friends. After completing his BTEC in Music Technology, he worked various jobs before pursuing a career in music full-time. The name "Slowthai" originated from his childhood nickname due to his slow speech and drawled tone.Slowthai's breakthrough came in 2016 with the release of his single "Jiggle," produced by Sammy Byrne. He later partnered with indie label Bone Soda to release the I Wish I Knew EP and signed with Method Records. His debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, was released in 2019 and peaked at number 9 on the Official Charts. The album received critical acclaim and was shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize.In addition to his solo work, Slowthai has collaborated with other artists, including Tyler, the Creator, Brockhampton, and Slaves. He has also made guest appearances on tracks by Gorillaz and James Blake. In 2020, Slowthai released several singles, including "Enemy," "Magic," and "Feel Away," which was dedicated to his brother's memory.Slowthai's sophomore album, Tyron, was released in 2021 and featured guest appearances from Skepta, Dominic Fike, James Blake, A$AP Rocky, and Denzel Curry. The album marked a new direction for Slowthai's music, blending grime and punk elements with introspective lyrics. In 2022 and 2023, Slowthai released several singles, including "I Know Nothing" and "Selfish," before announcing his third album, UGLY (short for "U Gotta Love Yourself"), which dropped in March 2023.Throughout his career, Slowthai has been praised for his unique blend of genres and raw energy. His music often incorporates elements of punk rock, grime, and hip-hop, making him a standout in the UK music scene.
