Michael Geier, better known as Big Mike Geier, is an Atlanta-based American singer and entertainer who has gained worldwide acclaim for his alter ego, Puddles Pity Party. This larger-than-life clown, reminiscent of Pagliacci, has taken the stage across North America, Europe, and Australia since 2013, captivating audiences with his distinctive performances. Geier's journey began in Philadelphia on March 12, 1965, where he grew up as the fifth of seven children in a family of towering individuals. Standing at an impressive 6 feet 8 inches, he later moved to Richmond, Virginia, and eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1995, where he resides with his business partner, Shannon Newton.
Before the advent of Puddles, Geier made a name for himself in Atlanta's entertainment circuit with Elvis Presley-themed Christmas shows and charitable events. He also collaborated with musical acts like Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox. However, his pivotal moment came when he introduced Puddles Pity Party. This clown-themed persona initially sported a vague appearance but later adopted the iconic whiteface clown costume. Puddles is known for his baritone singing voice and specializes in delivering mesmerizing cover renditions. His melancholic onstage persona refrains from speaking, creating a unique and captivating experience for his audience.
Puddles Pity Party made his debut at Aqua Teen Hunger Force's 2010 tour, where Geier was initially unsure about the character's reception. Encouraged by his wife's belief in the act, he continued, and the overwhelmingly positive audience response cemented Puddles' place in the entertainment world. Geier's artistic journey also included performances in immersive theater, like Sleep No More in New York's Manderley Bar, and a stint at Teatro ZinZanni, a European-style vaudevillian cabaret in Seattle.
One of Puddles' defining moments was his cover of Lorde's "Royals" with Postmodern Jukebox on YouTube in October 2013, garnering over 33 million views by March 2023. Lorde herself declared it her favorite cover of the song. Puddles continued to tour globally, captivating audiences in various countries.
In 2017, Geier, performing as Puddles, showcased his talent on season 12 of America's Got Talent. While he made it to the quarterfinals with his rendition of "Royals," he received an "X" from Simon Cowell and was eventually eliminated. Nevertheless, his unique talent left a lasting impact.
Throughout his career, Puddles has ventured into creative collaborations and guest appearances, including an appearance in a Cartoon Network ad promoting Teen Titans Go! and OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes. In January 2019, he embarked on a headline act residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
