PinkPantheress Biography

Victoria Beverley Walker, known professionally as PinkPantheress, is an English singer, songwriter, and record producer, born on April 18, 2001, in Bath, Somerset, England. She gained significant attention for her short, genre-spanning songs that often sample music from the 1990s and 2000s, including bedroom pop, drum and bass, alt-pop, and 2-step garage.

Early Life

Victoria was born to a Kenyan Luo mother from Kisumu and an English father who works as a statistics professor. She has one older brother who works as an audio engineer. Her family moved from Bath to Canterbury, Kent when she was five. Her father moved to the United States to work at a university in Austin, Texas, when she was 12, while she and her mother remained in England. 

Victoria took piano lessons as a child and sang "Stand by Me" by Ben E. King at a school talent show at age 12. At 14, she became the lead singer in a rock band, covering songs by My Chemical Romance, Paramore, and Green Day. She studied film at the University of the Arts London until 2022, when she dropped out to focus on her music career.

Career

PinkPantheress began writing music in high school and started using GarageBand to produce instrumentals for a friend at 17. She posted her early songs on SoundCloud under the name PinkPantheress, where they initially received little attention. However, a video posted to her personal TikTok account in December 2020 went viral, leading her to post a snippet of her song "Just a Waste," which also gained traction.

In early 2021, her songs "Break It Off" and "Pain" went viral on TikTok. "Pain" peaked at number 35 on the UK Singles Chart. She signed with Parlophone in April 2021 and Elektra Records shortly after. Her single "Just for Me" became a major hit, reaching number 27 on the UK Singles Chart. 

PinkPantheress released her debut mixtape, "To Hell with It," in October 2021, which debuted at number 20 on the UK Albums Chart. She was announced as the winner of BBC's Sound of 2022 poll in January 2022. Her singles "Boy's a Liar" and its remix "Boy's a Liar Pt. 2" featuring Ice Spice became particularly successful, with the remix peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the UK Singles Chart.

In 2023, she released her debut album, "Heaven Knows," with its lead single "Mosquito" and second single "Capable of Love." She announced the Capable of Love Tour for 2024, covering the UK, Europe, and North America, and will also open for Olivia Rodrigo's Guts World Tour in summer 2024.
