AJR Biography

AJR is an American indie pop band comprised of multi-instrumentalist brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan Metzger, better known as Met. The trio is well-known for their successful songs such as "I'm Ready", "Sober Up", "Burn the House Down", "Way Less Sad", "100 Bad Days", "Weak", "World's Smallest Violin", and "Bang!". Their third album, Neotheater, debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200 in 2019, and hit number one on the Official Top Rock Albums chart. "Bang!" marked their most successful chart-topper, reaching the top 10 in the United States.

The Met brothers began their musical journey by writing, producing, and mixing their own material in the living room of their Manhattan apartment, showcasing a do-it-yourself spirit towards indie pop music. They first started performing in 2006, busking in Central Park and Washington Square Park. Their big break came when their debut single, "I'm Ready", caught the attention of Australian singer Sia, who introduced them to the music industry. The band released their debut EP, 6foot1, later renamed as "I'm Ready", in 2013, quickly gaining recognition and momentum in the music industry.

Their second EP, Infinity, was released in 2014, followed by their debut album, Living Room, in 2015. By this time, the brothers had developed distinctive appearances, adding a unique character to their stage presence. AJR's commitment to creativity and innovation was evident in their 2015 bonus track, "Let The Games Begin".

Between 2016 and 2018, AJR released their third EP, What Everyone's Thinking, and their second studio album, The Click. The lead single "Weak" was a massive success, and the album also featured collaborations with renowned artists like Rivers Cuomo from Weezer. An extended version of The Click was released in 2018, introducing new tracks to the band's portfolio.

In 2019, AJR announced their third studio album, Neotheater, which included the popular single "100 Bad Days". The album debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, and number eight on Billboard's Top 200 Albums. The following years saw AJR continuing to release popular music, including their fourth studio album, OK Orchestra, in 2021. In 2022, they signed with Mercury Records, a Universal Music Group subsidiary. Alongside their recording career, AJR has also ventured into the theatre world, collaborating on a Broadway adaptation of the children's book, Harold and the Purple Crayon.

In their most recent work, AJR has continued to release new songs and announced their new album, TMM, in 2022. Despite the challenges and changes over the years, AJR remains dedicated to their craft, consistently creating and releasing music that reflects their unique style and creativity.
